Penanganan Pasien yang berisiko jatuh

Pada tahun 2000, total biaya kesehatan yang dihabiskan untuk kejadian jatuh yang fatal sebesar $0,2 miliar dan untuk kejadian cedera akibat jatuh non-fatal sebesar $19 miliar. Diperkirakan pada tahun 2020, biaya yang dikeluarkan untuk kejadian cedera akibat jatuh dapat mencapai $32,4 miliar. Pada tingkat rumah sakit, rerata tingkat insidensi tahunan sekitar 1,4 kejadian jatuh per-tempat tidur pertahunnya. Dengan memahami risiko jatuh, pencegahan, dan penanganannya; diharapkan dapat menurunkan biaya kesehatan yang dikeluarkan, serta meningkatkan klinis dan kepuasan pasien.

Siapapun yang bekerja di bidang kesehatan termasuk dokter, perawat, dan tenaga medis lainnya yang terlibat dalam perawatan pasien risiko jatuh (seperti konsultan medis, fisioterapis, tim transfer, sukarelawan, dan staf administrasi). Beberapa hal yang bisa dilakukan untuk menangani pasien jatuh diantaranya adalah : Identifikasi pasien yang mempunyai risiko jatuh,  optimalisasi penggunaan asesmen jatuh untuk menentukan kategori risiko jatuh, membandingkan faktor risiko intrinsik dan ekstrinsik jatuh, mendeskripsikan kebutuhan akan perlunya pemahaman faktor risiko jatuh, pencegahan, dan penanganannya dalam meningkatkan klinis dan kepuasan pasien, serta menurunkan biaya kesehatan, memahami kunci keberhasilan Program Faktor Risiko Jatuh, Pencegahan, dan Penanganannya dan memperoleh sumber daya dalam mengembangkan dan meningkatkan Program Faktor Risiko Jatuh, Pencegahan, dan Penanganannya.
